Eye

Yep, the key element. The Eye. I decided to be just a little 'creative' with the Eye. The movie dalek doesn't appear to have a light for the eye lense, so I decided 'hell, lets go for a cool random red LED'. The picture here shows the rings in the wrong position. See below for the correct position. Anyway, on with the show...

The Dalek eye started from taking a magic eight ball, cutting it in half, drilling the centre, then taking an aluminum chrome tube with threaded bolt going through it. The blue perspex block was then cut into the circles, and then glued to perspex tubes based on plan dimensions. The threaded bolt then had a wire placed through the centre.

As for the eye construction, I used LED lights connected and covered with mesh. The LED lights I opted for is not the static color, but instead, a randomised light sequence centered on RED. This makes the dalek more ‘scary’. Finally, the front eye construction was then connected using p38 to the rest of the housing, sanded, and then sprayed with three coats of gloss black.

The randomised sequence was only based on one color, RED, which looks good I guess - tried testing this against a wall in a dark room :)

After a try out on the eye led, noticed that the power for it was a little low, and also distracting - needed a better look. Having just one led didn't really look spooky enough. Re-did that to allow three leds higher capacity in a proper lens. The result is awesome!
